THE CREATIVE PROCESS
I love the creative process and get excited as the piece is come together.
I start with bunch of sweaters or t-shirts or other knits...and I never know what I will end up with...
But before that, there is process of preparation, which could be very exciting (like sorting through donated items) or less exciting...laundering them...
All of our pieces are created out of either donated or found materials. Everything is washed in hot water and dried in high heat dryer to prevent shrinkage.Then comes the surgery...all of the pieces are taken apart, cut up in various ways..match textures and colors or miss match...and then final selection of materials for the particular creation.
Once I am happy with the selection I lay the on my cutting table (lots of room there - it is 25 feet long!) and picture the creation. Bundle them together and place them in the basket in my sewing room. Ready for the serge. I try to do a few at a time in the same color group..so I don't have to change the color of the thread very often...changing the thread could sometimes lead to frustration (4 thread at a time...sometimes one doesn't come all the way through smoothly and breaks and I have to start re-threading this baby all over again...).
Once the creations is done I like to put them in the washer and dryer again. First it gets red of all of the tiny loops (through surging the seams) and also proves the shape and hold of the new fashion piece. I inspect all of the seams again for durability...and hang the new garment in my hallway...so I can look at it every time I pass by. Also at this point I accept comments from others passing by..as which is their favorite piece.
